There are various kinds of dishes that feature fried food coated in a light batter. Tempura, corndogs, and onion rings are a few familiar names but today, we’re taking a look at Fritto Misto. It’s an Italian dish consisting of fried vegetables, seafood, and herbs with a light coating of batter. Our own localized Fritto Misto will be making use of tawilis.
Tawilis Fritto Misto
Ingredients
½ kg tawilis
1 tbsp Maggi Magic Sarap
Bunches of flat leaf parsley
Batter
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup cornstarch
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp Maggi Magic Sarap
2 cups sparkling water/soda water
Paprika
Garlic powder
1 egg
oil for frying
Aioli
lemon
roasted garlic, whole
2 cups reg. olive oil
egg
mustard
salt and pepper
Procedure
Toss the tawilis in Magic Sarap and set aside to marinate for 5 minutes.
Combine all the batter ingredients. It will be a bit lumpy.
Dip each fish in the batter and fry in hot oil for 3-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Coat each bundle of parsley and fry until golden brown. Makes 3-4 servings.
