Preserving Cebu’s Heirloom Grain (Kabog Millet)

High in the hills of Catmon, Cebu, a rare grain known as kabog millet still survives. What was once nearly lost to time now lives on through Budbud Kabog, a steamed rice-cake delicacy wrapped in banana leaves and made from this heirloom cereal.

This episode follows the journey of preserving kabog millet grain by grain and leaf by leaf through the eyes of farmer Butche Estenzo and Slow Food Sugbo. From wild harvests to careful steaming, every step reflects the patience and pride of a community safeguarding its heritage.
