A Town Built on Mussels (Jiabong, Samar Philippines)

Jiabong, Samar is often called the mussel capital of Eastern Visayas. In this documentary, we explore how tahong (green mussels) shape an entire coastal town, from the sea to the roadside, and from livelihood to identity.

Through the voices of harvesters, vendors, processors, and home cooks, we trace the full ecosystem behind Jiabong’s tahong industry, including its triumphs, its crises, and the resilience that keeps the town afloat. More than just food, tahong here is work, culture, and shared survival.

This docu is the second episode of our Samar and Leyte provincial series. Watch until the end to hear what the people of Jiabong hope for their town’s future.
