For over two decades, Manang Lulu has been making Ilocos empanadas—an indulgent street food known for its crispy orange shell filled with egg, longganisa, shredded green papaya, and mung beans. Many variations of this regional specialty exist across the Philippines, and this is Manang Lulu’s version of the beloved dish.
In this episode, we meet Nanay Lulu, a 61-year-old cook who left her hometown in Ilocos Norte, worked abroad, and eventually returned to the Philippines to build her own empanada stall.
