We Made a Mille-Feuille Using Lumpia Wrappers. Here’s How It Turned Out.

Our Baking Queen, Nica Soledad was thinking about what to do with leftover lumpia wrappers when she remembered how often puff pastry shows up in quick dessert recipes. It’s one of those ingredients people keep in their freezer, ready to turn into a tart, a pie, or something sweet when they don’t have much time. But what does that look like for us in the Philippines, where lumpia wrappers are way more common than puff pastry?

With pastries on our minds, especially with the introduction of three limited-time pastries from Nutella’s latest collaboration with 7-Eleven, we thought it was the perfect time for a little kitchen experiment.

The result? Mango Lumpia Mille-Feuille with Nutella, a recipe that takes inspiration from two culinary traditions to create something both familiar and new.

And speaking of pastries, Nutella and 7-Eleven have teamed up to bring three new treats to participating stores, each with its own take on the familiar hazelnut flavor.

  • Hazelnut Cream Puff with Nutella: Light, airy pastry filled with a rich, creamy hazelnut filling
  • Hazelnut Cookie with Nutella: A buttery cookie with a satisfying bite and a rich chocolate-hazelnut flavor
  • Hazelnut Croissant Roll with Nutella: A flaky, golden pastry with buttery layers and a hazelnut filling

Developed in partnership with 7-Eleven, these three pastries offer different ways to enjoy Nutella’s distinctive flavor. Whether you’re in the mood for something flaky, creamy, or a good old cookie, there’s something to look forward to on your next convenience store run.

The new offerings will be available beginning November 11, 2026 at all 7-Eleven branches nationwide. The pastries will only be around until December 31, 2026, so keep an eye out!

Now, back to our Mille-Feuille.

The preparation is simple. Lumpia wrappers are cut into rectangles, brushed with butter, and baked until golden and crisp. They are then layered with whipped cream and ripe mangoes before being finished with a drizzle of Nutella.

Who knew the humble lumpia wrapper could pull off a French pastry?

Ingredients:
For the lumpia layers:

24pcs lumpia wrappers

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

For the cream:

1 cup (240g) whipping cream, chilled

2 tbsp powdered sugar

½ tsp vanilla extract

1 small pinch of salt

1 large ripe mango (about 200g flesh), half thinly sliced, half cubed

To finish:

¼ cup (60g) Nutella

Procedure:

  1. 1. Cut each lumpia wrapper in half, then trim the edges into rectangles. Arrange 5 pieces into a stack, brushing melted butter between each piece. Repeat to make 9 stacks for 3 mille-feuille.
  2.
  3. 2. Place the stacks on a lined baking tray, cover with parchment paper, and weigh down with another tray to keep them flat. Bake at 180°C / 350°F for 6–8 minutes, or until golden and crisp. Cool completely. 3. In a bowl, whip the chilled cream, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until medium-stiff peaks form. Transfer to a piping bag.4. For each serving, place one crisp lumpia stack on a plate, pipe whipped cream on top, and arrange sliced mango over it. Repeat with a second stack, cream, and mango, then finish with the third stack.5. Pipe whipped cream on top, add diced mango, and drizzle with Nutella. Serve immediately while the lumpia layers are crisp.
  4. Serving size: 3 servings
Preparation time: 20 mins
Baking time: 10 mins

At FEATR we are always looking for different ways of using Filipino ingredients. There’s still plenty to discover in ingredients we’ve known all our lives. A lumpia wrapper, for instance, turns out to be right at home in a French pastry. Sometimes, all it takes is a little curiosity (and a few leftovers) to come up with something new.

And if all this pastry talk has you craving something, there’s more to explore beyond Nica’s kitchen!

Curious to try the pastries? Drop by your nearest participating 7-Eleven and check out the three new Nutella pastries. They’re only around for a limited time, so don’t miss out!
