Tofu sisig! Yes, it’s delicious! There’s more to tofu than adding it to soups and stir fry and this sisig version is our current fave.
Pro tip: Make sure that you press all the water out of your tofu before frying to get that crisp skin!
CREAMY TOFU SISIG
Ingredients:
300g firm tofu, cut into small cubes
1 cup (240g) cooking oil (for frying)
1 small (60g) onion, finely chopped
3 cloves (9g) garlic, minced
1 small (70g) bell pepper, finely chopped
⅓ pack (about 83ml) Nestle All Purpose Cream
1 tbsp mayonnaise
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp calamansi juice
1 tsp Maggi Magic Savor
½ tsp ground black pepper
2pcs bird’s eye chilies (siling labuyo), chopped (optional for spice)
¼ cup chopped spring onion (optional for garnish)
1 calamansi (for garnish)
Procedure:
1. Heat oil in a pan and fry the tofu cubes until they’re golden and crispy. Set them aside.
2. In the same pan, remove excess oil, leaving about 1 tablespoon. Sauté the onions and garlic until soft and fragrant. Toss in the bell pepper and cook for another 2 minutes.
3. Add the fried tofu back into the pan.
4. In a bowl, combine Nestle All Purpose Cream, mayonnaise, soy sauce, calamansi juice, liquid seasoning, and ground black pepper. 6. Pour this mixture over the tofu in the pan and mix to coat everything evenly.
7. Stir in the bird’s eye chilies, then remove from heat. Transfer the creamy tofu sisig to a serving dish or sizzling plate and garnish with chopped spring onion and calamansi. Makes 3-4 servings.
